World Design rankings 2015
Juliana Neira of design boom of 1st January 2016 published the 2015 world ranking of countries as per the World Design Rankings (WDR) of countries that are announced once a year based on the number of design awards and competitions won by each country.
The ranking aims to provide insights into the current situation of the design industry but ultimately it is to contribute to the global design culture through advocating and promoting good design appreciation.
The rankings at the same time, give a good snapshot of the latest creations and eventually an idea of all worldwide design potentials of countries by highlighting their creative design strengths as well as their weaknesses.
In the 2015 ranking, the United States ranked first out of 83 countries.
Score points legend:
- Platinum award counts as 6
- Golden award counts as 5
- Silver award counts as 4
- Bronze award counts as 3
- Iron award counts as 2
Five new countries are included in the 2015 rankings: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Colombia, Swaziland, Qatar and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Top 10 changed slightly this year; China climbed from 7th to 5th position, moving Great Britain and Japan a slot down. Greece joined the top 10 by pushing down the Republic of Korea to the 11th position.
The MENA countries are represented by 10 countries, spearheaded by Kuwait at 24 and Qatar at 82.

- Israel at 37,
- The UAE at 48,
- Saudi Arabia at 61,
- Palestine at 69,
- Oman at 78 and
- Qatar at 82.

This ranks designers, artists and architects in all design categories that include architecture, interior design, furniture design, fashion design, graphics design and packaging design amongst many other fields of design activities, and all based on the number of design awards won globally.
The A’ design award and competition on the other hand, aims to highlight the excellent qualifications of best designs, design concepts and design oriented products worldwide.
The primary aim of the Award is to create publicity, PR push and advertisement opportunities for award winners while supporting the global design culture, creating incentives for entrants to come up with superior designs for a better future.
